The weather this year has sure been unpredictable, and well, pretty crazy! Since David works outside year-round, we are pretty quick to notice weather patterns and watch radar screens. With an overabundance of snow this past winter, we had heard it would be a dry summer. It’s proven to be quite opposite! Thankfully we have not had extreme damage from rain/storms and our hearts go out to those who have, but we had our first battle with water in the basement early Friday morning.
This is the BEST $15 I’ve spent by far in the last month!
This alarm goes off when the sump pump gets to a level that is higher than normal. At about 4:15 am David heard this thing going off so we both flew downstairs. This began our journey of scooping up many, many buckets of water in order to help out the sump pump. It was running but it had rained so much it couldn’t keep up. It was a long, tiring morning but we are thankful it was all dried up in 1 day. We were able to keep it in 2 rooms and it didn’t get to the carpet with padding which we were thankful for!
Here are some photos of our wet morning…
Here are some more photos of Sandy Hollow, farms, and other flooded areas around Sioux Center (basically, there is not supposed to be water where you see water, other than a small creek)…
With more rain in the forecast this week, we’re hoping to be more prepared!
