10 Months

Oh Kenna girl –

You are one-of-a-kind!  You are always busy and have no fear.  You are not afraid of getting dirty or creating messes.  Sometimes it’s hard to believe a little person can have so much personality. (You didn’t have many smiles tonight as you’re a little under the weather.)

You are shy when around a lot of other people or people you don’t know, but you let loose at home and when you’re comfortable!

You don’t like the word, “No”.  You will whine and pull up your nose like your feelings are hurt.  Sorry baby, we need to teach you a few things to keep you safe!

You are still very sensitive and will start crying if someone else is crying (a lot like your momma) or if there are really loud noises, you do not like that either.  You are starting to be more aware of when we are leaving, and you are not very happy about it.

We took you swimming this month and you weren’t really a fan.  Right when we walked in the pool area, it was loud and the room echoes so you started crying from the start.  You were pretty hesitant about the water at first and clung onto your daddy.  You wanted him to know he was NOT going anywhere.  A few toe dips in the water and sitting in the shallow was enough – until you got splashed, then you cried all over again!  We will have to gradually warm you up to it in time for summer!  It didn’t help the water was chilly.  You love your baths, so I’m sure you’ll love it soon enough.

You don’t like to sit.

You are also in a stage where you like to be by the action and see what’s going on.  This leads to a lot of sitting at our feet and tugging on our legs or standing up by us until we pick you up.

You now have 5 teeth with the 6th one trying to poke through.  You’re biting on your hands and rubbing your mouth constantly.  Ouch.

It’s been a long winter so we’re trying to be creative for new things to do and passing time.  Swinging in the basement has been a good option every now and then.

You always keep us guessing with your sleeping too.  Naps are not a favorite thing in your daily routine until you are completely exhausted.  And even then, you never sleep the same amount of time.  We just never know!  Thankfully your nights are always consistent.

You are starting to let go of things and trying to walk away.  I think you’ve gotten a step or two in before you lose your balance.  You’ve had a few hard falls but don’t cry very quickly from that. (P.S. Playing piano is exhausting sometimes as you see below!)

Grandma Altena says you are a lot like your mom.  It may be true – you are tough and mischievous and don’t want to be a wimp physically, yet you are overly sensitive emotionally.

Every month passes so quickly but I know we are all just looking forward to Spring and being able to play outside!

Happy 10 months, Kenna!  We love you more and more every day, little girl.
