This last week I heard a really good sermon! I’ve heard sermons similar to this one and it always seems to come at just the right time. Do you ever feel like you’re in a “land between”? Whether you’re in between jobs, whether you moved away and are homesick, whether you’re a new parent trying to figure out a schedule, whether you’re just plugging away in life but looking/hoping for something else, or whether you just don’t feel close to God and feel lonely – these are all situations that place us in a land between.
We maybe know God has something bigger and better for us but we just can’t see it right now.
There were a few major points that I took away from this message. Even though the land between discussed in the Bible between Egypt and Israel was a dessert area, there wasn’t a lot of life, and it just seemed dry – the “land betweens” in our lives are still fertile ground in certain situations.
One of those areas is complaint. It’s so easy to get frustrated when we’re facing uncertain situations or “down” times in life. Something just doesn’t seem right so we grumble and are quick to complain. Not necessarily a great quality, but we all know it happens.
Another one of those fertile areas in the land between is provision. God provides!! We see it time and time again, that God is faithful and he will provide just what we need. Even if it’s not necessarily what we want or think we need, He provides in so many other ways if we just watch and listen!
The major one that stuck out to me was the area of transformational growth. In the middle of the yuck in this world, and things that may not seem fair, and questions we don’t have answers to – these are times when God truly works in us… in ME! It’s sometimes hard to notice it in the middle of a trial, but it is always true looking back. I’m thankful for these times that I noticeably draw myself even closer to God, deepen my relationship with Him, and cling tight for He has my best interest in mind.
The land between is not necessarily a fun place to be – but it’s obvious God works through those times, and I’m truly thankful for the opportunities to feel His presence in a more tangible way. I encourage you to do the same!
